![]() Then Toguro decided to "lost" the fight against Yusuke and Kuwabara for the sake of money or idk. At that time the writer Togashi still doesn't think about his bs backstory. Remember the first episode he appeared he and his big bro were tormenting Yukina for the sake of money. Well Togashi didn't really pre-plan this series. Toguro overall was an inconsistent character. Lol (And I already read the manga 5 yrs ago.) Rewatching because its quarantine and this is available on yt. How do you go from an average shounen to the best there is. Yoshihiro Togashi really learned an insane amount from writing yu yu hakusho before starting his phenomenal masterpiece called hunter x hunter. I suppose I should still thank Hakusho for existing. I honestly don't know how anyone that watches this show in 2019 can say that this is a great show. Imagine showing us so much grief and despair over genkai's death only to bring her back alive. Limbo, a place where you wish you would stop existing for 10 thousands of years only to continue living anyway. Now he goes into Limbo to further atone for his ways. He strayed away from the path of righteousness when the greed of power took him over. Toguro kills him in the finale of the dark tournament and becomes obsessed with power and strength. This kairen dude killed all his students and thus Toguro the beast awakes. His plan to atone for his sins and somewhat redeem himself. So in the end the death of Genkai was included into Toguros plan. I might step away from this for a second now damn. Most of the fights only went for 1-2 episodes too. There were enough interesting plot elements to keep it going. I don't really like things that are just all fights, but this was a little less drawn out than Dragon Ball Z and the like. I'm glad that something happened because it almost seemed like the prize was all a wash.Īnyway, it was a pretty cool arc. I really did want to see those and how they would have turned out. Obviously, the team would have gotten wishes. I think it worked well within the framework of the show. I wasn't disappointed to see Genkai return. He blames everything on himself and hides behind a veneer of cold power. Later, his actions when speaking with Genkai actually made me more angry with him and made me realize his largest flaw. He was certainly honorable, for the most part, but he was not "good". ![]() I wept for his bad decisions, his evil actions with good intent. Toguro turned out to be a really interesting character. But every 10 eps there are at least 2 good eps. Too slow, to many cuts to comments and the audience and the girl group having trouble getting in the stadium, many jokes are stale. Opponents are obnoxious and boastful 80% of the time. Fights are terrible 80% of the time (haha, no creativity, no tactics, just power-ups and convenience holes). Not the amazing greatest tournament arc as many rave about it. In the preview I thought Yuusuke's design in the next arc is noticeable older. So on one hand I get the feels of Genkai death, on the other I get more honorable Toguro + Genkai brought back, I think I'd choose the 2nd option. Toguro's being really really honorable at the end will not be proved if the event of him entrusting Genkai's body to Koenma knowing she would revive (and he would lose to Yuusuke) did not happen. He killed his worthless jerky older brother. He absorbed the souls of the audience, but most of them are worthless demons. MY GOD! WHY DIDN'T I NOTICE? He allowed the jerk who kidnapped Yukina to be killed. And look back at all the things he have done. Though his flashback talk with Koenma makes him veryyyyyy likeable. I guess I have to use the cliche answer to this problem: humans are complicated and don't always act by logic. in just one episode they tried to lump together moreeeee information about Toguro and now I'm confused as fukk. The first episode was probably the best part of the series. I'll give it one more episode to see where the next arc goes (and the new opening) before I drop it, or at least put it on hold. While not terrible, I'm not finding this series all that great and I don't think I can sit through another 50 episodes of this. It certainly did not live up to the hype I've seen. Overall this arc was very mediocre and cliche, but had a couple good moments. ![]() Despite being hired muscle, he really always did do things his way. Probably so we'd really want to see his face beaten in. Toguro is a surprisingly complex and morally gray character, and we didn't really get to appreciate that until after he died. So at the very least, her revival wasn't pointless. ![]() He even played a hand in guaranteeing her revival. I was gonna complain about how cheap Genkai's revival was, but it dawned on me that the fact Toguro was always aware she was going to be revived actually really alters his character in an interesting way.
